NYC showcase pays tribute to Fad Gadget

Frank Tovey was one of the finest performers in the history of music. Whether he was hanging from ceilings covered in shaving cream as electronic punk pioneer Fad Gadget or smashing lightbulbs while belting out twisted folk melodies as Frank Tovey & The Pyros, he was putting his entire body and soul into his performance. Small wonder that his live shows were things of legend, and his work continues to inspire others to this day. MUTE Records, Tovey’s home since the beginning, is celebrating his work in March with the three-part exhibition FGFt.

Marking the 10th anniversary of his shocking death in 2002, FGFt opens March 1st with a group exhibition of art inspired by Tovey, and includes Olaf Breuning, Kelsey Henderson, Erika Keck, Robert Knoke, Terence Koh, Alex Rose, Desi Santiago, Matt Sims, Liz Wendelbo, Granth Worth, Una Szeemann, and Fischerspooner. On March 3rd, minimalists Xeno & Oaklander will perform together with Ike Yard, and on the 10th the documentary Fad Gadget by Frank Tovey will be showing for only the second time in the US (the first was also in NYC for a Drop Dead party).
