Ellen Allien
Berlin native Ellen Allien is known for refusing to adhere to musical boundaries. Her mixing style, production technique and record label, BPitch Control, all utilize a broad palette of tropes that veer from abstract IDM to more traditional techno-oriented forms. Her own label is often credited with allowing artists to explore the more experimental recesses of traditional dance music, and has launched the careers of popular musicians such as Apparat and Modeselektor.
Allien’s nearly 20-year career has been incredibly prolific, yielding seven full-length albums and more than 40 singles and EPs on her own label, BPitch Control, as well as on Fabric Records, Intacto Records, Soniculture, Spectral Sound and Watergate Records. She became a resident DJ at Tresor in 1992, and began her own show on Berlin’s Kiss-FM shortly afterwards. In recent years she has also spent a considerable amount of time in Ibiza, where she is a resident DJ at the club DC10.
