Trolls NAMM; Drops Track. All a day in the life of Richard D. James.

Aphex Twin keeps the good news rolling in the lead up to the release of his new Warp Records EP, Cheetah. The EP takes its name from the Cheetah MS800, a ’80s synthesizer that has the questionable reputation of being one of the hardest synths to program ever. Never one to shy away from a challenge, it’s also the primary instrument that Richard used on the record. The synthesizer has (understandably) been out of production for some time now, but with hype swirling around in the lead-up to his new EP, it made a brief cameo at last week’s NAMM trade show.

Aphex Twin also gave NAMM attendees a privileged advanced listen to the entire EP in the lead up to its July 8th official release. But for those who weren’t there, there’s good news. Yesterday, Aphex premiered “2X202-ST5” on BBC6 radio, and today “CHEETAHT7b” emerged on iTunes, and courtesy of Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show—listen here.
