If your record needle is fudged, have no phear—simply find the nearest bird skull.  That’s what DJ and presumably aspiring Tool video director Michael Ridge has done, as the video above shows. Using a contact microphone in conjunction with the skull, Ridge manages to wring a good amount of audio from a 7″ of birdsong recordings. Skulls work best, however, when playing goth records or warbly old ’20s blues. Go figure (we didn’t have to; knew it already. Pay it forward.)

If you need more ghoulish animalia musicalis, here’s a badger that someone made into a freakin’ theremin. I know, right?
