Renegade Ballerinas Are Running Iran's Illegal Dance Scene

It’s technically illegal to dance in Iran. You’re allowed to move your body and you’re allowed to do so to music, but you are not allowed to feel joy from it. Broadly reports that this strict law is driving people into the underground, where clandestine dance companies exist and renegade ballet dancers practise behind closed doors. It’s quite a dangerous scene, as police control everything in Iran—even the use of nail polish or make up. Meanwhile in Europe, gentrification is killing nightclubs.
