We got a lot of love for Prurient. Dominick Fernow’s most abrasive project has soundtrack our good, bad and psychologically-scarring moments; he’s even responsible for turning some of us on to techno. So the news of him lending his unique touch to John Carpenter’s recent Lost Themes LP has us fairly salivating. I mean, look at this tracklist—Zola Jesus, Skinny Puppy’s ohGr, Silent Servant, Foetus’ JG Thirwell…it’s a goth dream, basically. Here’s what Fernow had to say about it:
John Carpenter is the master of sustained tension with electronic music. The fine line between stasis and energy is almost impossible to define but Carpenter consistently achieves this paradox with Spartan means. This remix attempts to break the compositional tension of Carpenter’s ‘Purgatory’ and through a process of colliding loop cycles—a technique used on the Pleasure Ground album reformatting the electronics into a earth like texture outside of the urban environments traditionally connected to synthesis.
You need this in your ears, now, and you definitely need to grab Lost Themes Remixed when it drops Oct. 16th via Sacred Bones.
