Discover Kraftwerk's 7 Essential Pieces Of Studio Gear
The German outfit created and commissioned much of the gear used to deliver their musical vision.
Is Kraftwerk the most innovative band in the world? Although Giorgio Moroder‘s production of “I Feel Love” for Donna Summer is often cited as the track that kick-started electronic dance music, Kraftwerk’s Autobahn actually arrived a whole three years before, paving the way for synth-pop, electro and techno. The album is one of many examples of how Kraftwerk utilized technology to push their music as far as they could.
The band allegedly built and commissioned much of their gear over the years, including the Minimoog heard on Autobahn, the Synthanorma Sequencer featured on Trans Europe Express and the Vako Orchestron included in Radio-Activity. Oh, and of course, the Doepfer Mogli MIDI Glove used in many live performances. The fact that the group created the technology they needed to deliver their musical vision further proves how integral they are to the electronic music scene. Forty years later, they are still known for crafting unique DIY sounds that few other musical and technological innovators have been able to realize. Read the full list of their studio gear here and watch a video of the MIDI glove in action below.
