Get Into Goa With This Archive Of Classic Rave Photos
These photos tell the story of the Indian hotspot from the hippie heyday to the ravey golden years.
When it comes to counterculture credentials, Goa has only a bit more clout than Ibiza these days. But that wasn’t always the case. The small Indian state—whose beach parties birthed a particular kind of psytrance—was at one time a major destination for wild spirits and freethinking rebels. And what began as a few parties on the beach in the ’60s and ’70s has evolved over the years into something quite different. That evolution is partly charted in this massive photo archive that begins in the pre-rave years of the ’70s and runs right up to the trance explosion of the late ’90s.
