A Minimoog Clone Will Be Behringer's Next Insanely Cheap Synth
Electronic instrument company Behringer has announced plans to produce a clone of the iconic Minimoog Model D synthesizer.
In a message board post, founder Uli Behringer made note that because the synth’s technology is now over 40 years old, its intellectual property and patents had expired and entered the public domain.
Behringer has been making a name for themselves of late for producing feature-heavy analog gear at accessible entry-level prices. First there was the DeepMind 12 polysynth, then Behringer announced plans for an 808/909 hybrid drum machine and then Uli Behringer himself teased a line of insanely cheap $49 synths. We doubt their clone will have the classy wood finish or the unbeatable bass and filter of the original—but hey, here’s to trying.
