The Original Ghost In The Shell Soundtrack Is Now On Vinyl

It’s about time.

One of the finest anime soundtracks of its time, the Ghost In The Shell  OST has finally received the official vinyl release it has always deserved. The iconic 1995 anime film has became an instant cult classic thanks to its unique blend of cyberpunk aesthetics and philosophically dense speculations on dystopian futures. The soundtrack, directed by Kenji Kawai, captured the film’s mood perfectly. It is characterised by spacious percussion mixed with traditional Japanese instrumentation. It also draws on the fields of ambient, drone and electro-acoustic music to create its haunting and tense soundscapes. Needless to say, it’s one of those rare breeds of soundtrack that makes the film what it is.

It’s unbelievable that it’s taken 22 years for the first ever official vinyl release to drop, but hey, good things come to those who wait. You can pick up the record via the Phonica website here. Listen to the full OST below and then scroll down further to relive the brilliance of the opening credits and genesis scene.
