Technics Will Finally Release A Cheaper Turntable For DJs
It’s about time.
DJs in the market for a new pair of decks should be pleased to know that Technics has just announced a new, all-black, club-focused and consumer-oriented version of its incredibly expensive SL-1200G audiophile turntable. The new SL-1210GR turntable sports a slick all-black paint job and a relatively affordable $1600 price tag.
The eye-watering price of the SL-1200G caused a lot of controversy among DJs at the time, who felt they were being priced out of the reboot of the world’s most famous DJ tool. This was made worse when in a New York Times article, Technics creative director Hiro Morishita suggested DJs were no longer a lucrative business model for the legendary turntable manufacturers.
While undoubtedly still expensive, hopefully the SL-1210GR will be enough to keep DJs satisfied.
