Do We Really Need A Spotify-Enabled Turntable?
No matter your thoughts on the matter, it’s happening.
The future of analog hi-fi gear may soon be upon us. London-based mastering studio Gearbox Records has just launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the production of a turntable that can play, analyze and synchronize vinyl records with your Spotify playlists. The Gearbox Automatic signals a strange attempt to connect the authenticity of vinyl with the convenience of streaming.
The Gearbox Automatic will ensure high-quality vinyl playback via a vacuum tube phono stage. It boasts both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. Also very handy is its built-in technology that converts analog sound to digital. It promises to also be pretty affordable—clocking in at around €450 if you pledge to the project now. Watch the Kickstarter vide and find out more about the project here.
