This Trippy Video Makes Landscapes From 8-Bit Synth Music
Víctor Doval brings audio and visual worlds into stunning harmony in his new video for ‘Howler Monkey’.
With rapid advances in animation techniques there exists the potential to fuse the realms of music and video in amazing new ways. Case in point: the new music video for Howler Monkey by Meier & Erdmann directed by Víctor Doval.
To create the piece, Doval analyzed the sound spectrum of the 8-bit-inspired track using an algorithm. He then picked frequency bands that he programmed to control visual parameters such as geometry, texture and lighting. As Doval explains, “The initial idea came from the understanding of music as a temporal journey, a changing landscape that is perceived via the ears.” As you can see in the video, the radically morphing landscape adds an extra layer of subtlety to the beat-driven track. It’s almost like listening with your eyes. Check it out below.
