Punks, politics and Paris collide in this revealing documentary
If it is true that music is history collapsed into culture, then the above documentary, Antifa: Chasseurs de Skins, is an awesome insight into Paris’ political, economic and racial issues in the late ’70s and early ’80s. It’s a film seen from the microcosm of the punk scene. As punk’s skinhead origins nastily morphed into anti-semitic, anti-immigration and fascist gangs that plagued the Parisian punk scene, a group of punks—largely from migrant backgrounds—formed their own counter-fascist gangs like the Red Warriors. The video is definitely worth watching as a reminder that there’s no such thing as punk without politics.
