Watch Paul Oakenfold Take DJing To New Heights On Mt. Everest
The performance is the first installment of his SoundTrek series, which will take place in unexpected places around the world.
From discovering Balearic acid house on the beaches of Ibiza to spinning trance 5,380 meters above sea level, it’s fair to say that Paul Oakenfold’s DJ career has taken him pretty much everywhere—including Mount Everest’s base camp.
The founding father of UK rave has been planning his April 11 performance, the “highest party on Earth,” for two years and will chronicle the trek in a forthcoming live album and documentary. The Everest trip is the first installment of Oakenfold’s new SoundTrek series in which he’ll stage performances in unexpected places around the globe and donate funds to local communities.
The crowd was, apparently, a bit thinner than at Amnesia or Space Ibiza, but hey, that’s the price you pay for being a pioneer. Check out videos and images from the “highest party on Earth” here, and watch Oakenfold discuss his Everest performance below.
