“Device Control” gets its own EP release after being chosen to open and close Frank Ocean’s new album Endless.
Frank Ocean’s Endless—that’s the video album, not the Blonde one, stoopid—has been just about everywhere over the internet in the last minute; have you noticed? But that nice little ditty about capturing live video with an Apple appliance that opens and closes the album? Well, that’s actually Wolfgang Tillmans with the track “Device Control”.
One of the most iconic visual artists of his era, Tillmans recently released a techno record called 2016 / 1986. He has followed that up with the full release of Device Control, an EP that includes a slew of remixes from Daniel Wang, J.E.E.P. and SALEM (welcome back, guys—we’re pumped!).
As Tillmans told Pitchfork, after photographing Frank the guys went out clubbing together at Berghain and remained in contact. The next thing you know, he’s bookending the biggest album of 2016. It’s amazing what a night out in Berlin can do.
