Would You Wear These Weird Outfits Inspired By Sound?
This is what sound would look like as fashion.
We were completely blown away when we first came across these absolutely stunning “Soundsuits” designed by American performance artist Nick Cave.
Not to be confused with the Australian musician of the same name, Cave started developing these complex costumes to augment his dance performances—and also as a way of questioning identity and stereotypes in the wake of the brutal racially charged beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police officers in 1991.
As Cave explains: “When I was inside a suit, you couldn’t tell if I was a woman or man; if I was black, red, green or orange; from Haiti or South Africa. I was no longer Nick. I was a shaman of sorts.”
