Editor’s Choice: June 1, 2013
Rather than operate as a music news source, Electronic Beats operates more as a music information source. We want to share with you; we want you to know what we’re hearing, what’s reverberating our cochleas and sending broader vibrations throughout our bodies, and by extension our audio-addled souls. Down with that? Welcome to Editor’s Choice.

Cassie – “All My Love” (Kingdom edit)
He doesn’t really stray that much from the original, but deserves props merely for extending the sexy R&B grinder by another minute and a half, and the futuristic sparkles and added percussion dovetail perfectly with Soundz Dope’s original production.

FTSE – “Tidal Wave” featuring Saint Saviour
This could have been a rote piece of laptop adult contemporary: the Hammond organ, the boy-girl vocals recorded insinuatingly close to the microphone in studied estuary accents… But there’s enough sonic inventiveness buried in the pristine production to keep you onside. That moment when the chorus kicks back in after the snaking, mouldy synth and rasping brass of the middle eight, well, they’ve got you right there.

Alex Barck –”Oh Africa” ft. Christine Salem
Jazzanova’s Alex Barck is back with his anticipated first ever solo album, planned to be released later this year via his very own Reunion imprint. Get an idea of this greatness through listening to his first snippet, a collaboration with La Reunion’s superstar Christine Salem.
Inga Copeland – “A World in Danger”
Can’t stop listening to “A World in Danger iii” the new song from Inga Copeland and Scratcha DVA. Class of their own.

Austra – “Painful Like”
The new single from Austra’s upcoming second album OLYMPIA is also my chosen theme song for 2013. I obsessively listened to Austra’s debut to the point where I should have grown tired of it, but —and here’s weird part—I didn’t. I still play the hell out of it, and I suspect that’s going to be the case with OLYMPIA as well. Hell of an album.
Ulterior – “The Locus of Control” (IIcarus Remix)
London-based clothing label LONG have just dropped a remix EP for gothy UK kings Ulterior, and while the remixer selection (also via Deathface, Godmode, and Venice Calypso) is pretty spicy, it’s this jaggedly bouncy club masterpiece from IIcarus that grabbed my ears and SHOOK the first time I heard it. It absolutely slays when you play it out, too.

Fuck Buttons – The Red Wing (edit)
I used to like Fuck Buttons and with this cut from their upcoming album Slow Focus, due for release in July via ATP Recordings, it’ll stay that way for now.
