Flying Lotus offers free mix for Stones Throw
Years ago a certain Stephen Ellison used to work as an intern in the Stones Throw office. Who would have thought this guy is about to fully modernize instrumental hiphop? Under his Flying Lotus moniker Ellison renders hommage to both Madlib and deceased hiphop visionary J Dilla, infiltrating the bone-dry beat machinery with pure white electro insanity.
The latest Stones Throw podcast was mixed by FlyLo, and it’s one of the most interesting free offerings of the always-generous label. On the Lovers Melt issue lots of obscure gems and unknown treasures are thrown together – it’s a full dose of electric funk, bossa, brass grooves, soul-heavy vocal samples and tribalistic percussions. Or, as the people at Stones Throw sum it up: “No theme, no loops, just records found in the valley.” Download the mix here or via iTunes.
In related news: The Radiohead fan site AtEaseWeb.com reports that Flying Lotus is about to remix the current Radiohead LP The King Of Limbs. The announcement is not yet confirmed, but since Thom Yorke appeared on FlyLo’s last album Cosmogramma and the latter yet remixed Radiohead’s ‘Reckoner’ it seems to be just a matter of time.
