From Kettles To Cloaks: Speak & Spells
We don’t really know much about From Kettles To Cloaks; there isn’t much information available about them, really. Just a few videos and a bandcamp page, neither of which are chock full of information. Their latest release Windows (which can be streamed here) is mostly comprised of semi-acoustic guitar dirges and weary, acidic vocals, but one track in particular has us stuck on repeat. ‘Morriña’ combines broken Speak & Spell snippets with layers of throbbing electronic pulses and harmonic chants that bring to mind the quasi-religious sounds of Dead Can Dance and Pocahaunted, as well as echoes of the okkvlt-folk of Chelsea Wolfe. It’s equal parts beautiful and unsettling, and it’s making us melt today. Stream it below.
