Head to the Country with the new John Maus video
Dr. John Maus is sending signals through time and space. Not only with his great new, 80s synth-driven album We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves, but even more with the new music video for ‘Head for the Country’.
We’re seeing Maus as a wanderer through the snowy countryside of his home in Minnesota, heading for a radar transmission station, communicating with beings from outer space as well as earthly creatures – the cameo of Robocop therefore comes as no real surprise.
The overall retro appearance of the video follows the aesthetic theme Maus’ previous music videos: just as in ‘Believer‘ and ‘Enterprise‘, Maus’ video director Jennifer Juniper Stratford (of Six Organs Of Admittance– and Wolf Eyes-fame) enhances his lofi aesthetic, this time reflecting the sense of wanting to reach out and find meaning.
We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves is out on June 27th on Upset! The Rhythm. Maus will be on tour in the US throughout June and July, with no news on live shows in Europe so far. Grab a free MP3 download of ‘Head for the Country’ with the embedded SoundCloud player below.
