In the current episode of the Telekom Electronic Beats Podcast, host Jakob Thoene talks to British DJ, producer, and radio presenter Benji B. The Brit is known worldwide for his BBC radio shows and deep, as well as eclectic, DJ sets. In addition to his radio shows, he has been playing DJ sets at his London party series Deviation since 2007, which is currently on hold due to Covid-19. Benji B learned to play the saxophone at an early age and developed a passion for records. In the podcast, he talks about the role of radio and the significance of this medium. He also gives exclusive insights into his new compilation Deviation Classics, which celebrates the legacy of the legendary London club night series and the record label he found with Judah in 2007. The compilation covers various music genres and is planned to be released in spring 2021. In this interview, he explains the role his audience played in the selection of the tracks and shares his idea of interdisciplinarity. He talks about the changed perception of music in combination with other arts and about his work with creative people from various disciplines, like Kanye West or Virgil Abloh. In his opinion, the task of art is to merge and learn from one another rather than to compete with each other.
