These designs have changed the way that we listen to music.
Today, headphones are available in innumerable different styles—including over-the-ear, earbuds and bluetooth—all of which have been determined by a long history of headphone design. The first in-ear prototypes were conceptualized in 1891, and have steadily evolved into their sleeker modern counterparts, like Beats By Dre, the Apple earbuds and Bose Quiet Comfort. Some of the 20th century’s earliest headphone models, like the 1937 Beyerdynamic DT48, were instrumental in creating the speaker cones that are ubiquitous in today’s most popular styles.
