Screaming arpeggios, rolling bass lines and a catchy sense of summer fun can only mean one thing: Italo disco. The sound exploded out of Italy in the early-’80s, and it’s been popular all over the world ever since. Yet while the sound is often viewed as kind of goofy, it can be a lot darker and weirder than one would expect. Case in point is Fred Ventura, a top Italo vocalist who originally came from the Italian punk underground. Now a DJ, Ventura selected 11 of his favorite Italo bangers for FACT.
