This Is What A 90 Year Old Electronic Instrument Sounds Like
The Ondomo is a curious instrument that crosses a piano with a theremin.
The news around this year’s Superbooth may have been dominated by Behringer’s new Moog clone, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t plenty of other cool stuff to get excited about. Case in point is Japanese company Asaden, who are launching an updated version of the Ondomo, an electronic instrument first debuted over 90 years ago. What makes it so unique is that it combines a piano-style keyboard with the hands-on sound-shaping qualities of a Theremin. It is one of the weirdest instruments we’ve seen in a while, and it sounds pretty strange too. There will only be about 100 units made, but if you have €2000 burning a hole in your pocket, you can bring one home with you. Learn more on the company’s website.
