As detailed in our review of his appearance in Berlin last year, Richard D. James’ incendiary—and all too rare—live appearances are an mind-melting cacophony of hardcore, rave, noise, techno and electro. And his set in the Californian desert may have been even more unrelenting.
Surrounded by an oppressive amount of lasers and screens, Aphex Twin subjected the crowd to a pulsating onslaught of percussion, washes of acid and shards of metallic distortion. Drenching every track with his own live interventions and twisted electronics, James made sure the night was one to remember.
