Producer Olivia Louvel has contributed a moving audio-visual project to #Rojava, a female:pressure campaign curated by Antye Greie-Ripatti that aims to show solidarity and raise awareness for a special de facto autonomous zone in northern Syria. The Rojava territory promotes racial, ethnic and religious justice and freedom, gender equality and other progressive values, and it’s the site of a front line of women fighting against the Islamic State. The video, Afraid Of Women, was originally screened at a panel at this year’s CTM Festival in Berlin and focuses on how the feared militant group are scared of females. According to the clip, IS troops run away from female Rojava fighters because they believe they will go to hell if killed by a woman.
Female:pressure has uploaded a selection of 25 other entries to the #Rojava campaign on SoundCloud, and the rest will be revealed on March 8, International Women’s Day. In the meantime, you can read the founder of female:pressure’s conversation with new-school Discwoman activist Umfang or peep Olivia Louvel’s very cool contribution to former EB Radio series.
