Jamie Hewlett Reveals More Details About Gorillaz TV Show
You’ve heard the album, now get ready for the animated series.
As we reported earlier today, Gorillaz’s new album Humanz is finally out. And while you might think that that means the adventure stops there, the truth is that the story will go on, albeit in a new way that’s sure to delight the group’s fans. Jamie Hewlett, the band’s co-creator, has confirmed that there will be in a 10 episode animated TV series in 2018.
Hewlett has mentioned the series before, but details were scarce—the TV show is the latest iteration of a desire to make a feature film. Hewlett has now shared that he will direct the first and last episodes fo the series, and that the show will return to a familiar 2D animation format.
We hope that the video for “Saturnz Barz (Spirit House)” is a teaser for what’s to come! Hewlett explained the return to hand-drawn animation, “Everybody does CG now, and it is great when you’re making backgrounds, like environments and landscapes, but not the actual characters.”
Murdoc, 2D, Noodles and Russel will all be hand-drawn illustrations, but Hewlett says that they may interact with real footage—possibly even meeting some of the Humanz collaborators. Read more about Hewlett’s plans here.
