Someone Found A Rare Score By Laurie Spiegel C. 1970
Bradford Bailey of BlogTheHum discovered a score written around 1970 by famed electronic music pioneer Laurie Spiegel.
As Bailey points out, such documents are exceedingly rare because Spiegel worked mostly on modular synths (like the Buchla, which is also the specialty of our recent Mentors subjects, Suzanne Ciani and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith) and digital systems, which obviously don’t require music to be written out. This one is for an early work for two-channel electronic tape from her days as a student.
If you want to hear some of Laurie’s music in addition to seeing it, check out this mix comprised of tracks from 35 historically significant women in electronic music.
