The Buchla maestro returns with a stunning new album called The Kid.
Over the past few years, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith has been making waves with her beautiful and complex modular synth compositions. Her highly original approach to synthesis combines voice, bright sonic environments and dynamic melodic phrasing to create works that pay their dues to avant-garde mentors like Suzanne Ciani before her, while still sounding totally contemporary.
All these elements have converged on her stunning new album, The Kid. Released through Western Vinyl, the new LP is Smith’s sixth full length overall, following on from last year’s brilliant releases EARS and Sunergy—a collaborative work for Rvng Intl. with Suzanne Ciani. True to form, KAS has incorporated obscure scales and musical idioms to create something utterly unique. Listen to it in full below.
