Listen To A Melancholic New Piano Composition Off Nils Frahm's Just-Released EP
The five tracks on Encore 1 come from the same recording sessions as his universally acclaimed album All Melody.
Nils Frahm just dropped a beautiful new five-track EP, Encore 1, on Erased Tapes. The release comes as somewhat of a surprise, with the German pianist and composer having only earlier this year released his celebrated seventh album, All Melody.
Encore 1 comes from the same recording sessions as 2018’s All Melody—itself the result of Frahm moving into a new glorious recording studio at Berlin’s Funkhaus. stands as the first offering of over 40 initial sketches that didn’t make it to the 12-track album. “The idea behind Encores is one we had from before All Melody; to do three releases each with their own distinct musical style and theme, perhaps even as a triple album,” Frahm writes. “But All Melody became larger than itself and took over any initial concepts.” Meant as complements rather than simply additions to the album, this EP pays special focus on an acoustic sound palette of solo piano and harmonium.
