Most musicians have an image in their mind when they sit down to create a tunes. But what do images themselves actually sound like? A new generation of artists, like Maria Mannone, Aleksander Vinter and Andrew Huang are discovering just that by using MIDI and spectrograms to “draw” sound.
This fascinating realm of research may sound technical, but even the likes of Aphex Twin and Plaid have dabbled in the sound of art, and the results can be strikingly beautiful.
