Suzanne Ciani may know all of the secrets to synthesis, but luckily for us, she’s not afraid to share them.
Since the early days of her career, the composer, sound designer, performer and synth sorceress has always been eager to share her vast knowledge of this confusing world of tangled wires via synth promotional videos, introductions to modular techniques or Electronic Beats Mentors series.
Now, in a masterclass presented live at Elevation 1049 festival, Ciani returns to give us an intimate, in-depth look into the elusive Buchla modular synth—the instrument she’s used for decades in her work across film, TV and production. In the video, she explains her relationship to this complex device and how she manages to coax such deep, lush and expressive sounds out of it.
