Somebody Made A Robot That Can Play Music With A Live Band
Could this be the future of computer music?
The Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology is a world leader in the development of robotics within music. Its researchers’ most recent creation is a robotic marimba player called Shimon that can improvise alongside a live band.
Yes, that’s right, it can actually compose its own music.
Shimon crafts its robojams by using artificial intelligence-generated algorithms to listen to human musicians and improvise along with them. Watch a video of Shimon playing a live show with its band, Shimon Robotic, below. They’re pretty smooth.
