Tangible Waves' New Complete Modular System Is Retailing For €328
The new modular format eliminates expensive superficial parts to provide competitively priced systems and individual units.
Let’s face it, modular synthesizers—despite being insanely cool—can be a pretty expensive obsession. The cost of acquiring enough modules, patch cables and the necessary accessories can be a barrier even for the curious beginner.
A new modular format from Tangible Waves is hoping to change all that. The AE modular is a reduced, compact modular format—even smaller than Eurorack—specifically designed to reduce the costs on superficial extras that make most modulars expensive. The result: an 11-module, single rack system costs an insane €328, with individual modules retailing between €20 and €40.
The AE modular uses a pin system instead of Eurorack patch points, while printed metal faceplates have been replaced with durable ink stamps, giving the synth a vintage feel that betrays its age. A range of modules are currently available, including your essential VCOs, VCAs, VCFs, plus delay effects, sequencers and more. A double-rack system can house up to 32 modules at an insanely light 1.5 kilograms.
