UK Nightclubs Are Closing Left, Right and Center
Over the past few years it sometimes felt as if London’s club scene was slowly but surely bleeding out. New reports by BBC’s Newsbeat suggest that the demise of nightclubs has been a major issue for all of the UK. According to the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR), which represents bars, clubs and pubs, the UK has lost nearly 50 percent of its nightclubs since 2005, from 3,144 to 1,733. Kate Nichols from the ALMR warns that this trend will have a serious impact on the UK “culturally, socially and economically.”
