Watch Science Totally P0wn Lego People Using "Time Reversal"
Science: 1, Lego: 0
Are you big on Lego, sound and destruction? If so, you may regret having given up on science in school, because it seems that a new field of inquiry has opened up that combines all of those things. Scientists are now studying how to use the power of sound to destroy Lego figurines.
As part of their research into a technique called “time reversal”, researchers at Brigham Young University devised a novel way to show the power of concentrated sound waves. Using a speaker, a sensor and playback software, researchers are able to precisely target Lego people with concentrated sonic vibrations that are powerful enough to send those suckers tumbling.
In its more “useful” role, time reversal is used in medical ultrasounds and submarine communication systems. Researchers now think, however, that the technique could be the future of private communications as well. To learn more about how it works and to see those Lego humans bite the dust, click here.
