The Berlin producer's new LP, 'The Risky Sets', will be released on February 1.

On February 1, bonafide Berlin techno legend Westbam is set to release his new record The Risky Sets. The producer, born Maximilian Lenz, has left an indelible mark on the city’s clubbing life, having contributed hymns to the earliest Love Parades and playing a raved-up brand of techno across the city’s clubs from the early ’90s.

This techno legacy can be heard in the DNA of the two lead singles from the new album, “Uptown” and “No Facebook”. As Lenz explained to us in a previous Electronic Beats podcast, his musical interests extend as far as post-punk and New York electro funk, the influence of which can be heard on both tracks. “Uptown” in particular has a particular urban snarl, matched by the official video in which Westbam immerses himself in the cosmopolitan rush of Tokyo. Watch it above, and check out the politically-charged “No Facebook” below.
