You can do quite a bit of high-level production with a phone nowadays. There are apps with full-featured synthesizers, mobile, play-anywhere drum machines and even iPhone-based theremins. The app is based around Reason’s Europa synthesizer, and its flexible setup allows for several workflows. You can write melodies using the smart keyboard, note grid or chords tools, then edit your ideas with built in effects.
Reason Compact connects to a host of other music apps, and you can use it to collaborate on the fly using Ableton Link. When you’re back at the computer, the app allows you to fully export your ideas into Reason 10—which you get a Lite version of for free when you download the app—for editing and finishing. It’s the perfect way to add more flexibility into your music-making workflow.
