Blind Test: 2000s Hardgroove – Episode 35 (Electronic Beats TV)

For the 35th episode of our Telekom Electronic Beats Blind Test series we turn to the genre of Hardgroove and some of its iconic records from the 2000’s. The sound has seen a huge resurgence in recent years from many DJ’s and lovers of loop-led, sample heavy and tribal percussion tinged techno. Hardgroove’s most notable purveyor, Ben Sims, coined the term in the 90’s, although he also alludes to the genre’s lineage harkening back to hip-hop, the repeating of drum breaks and heavy instrumental sections of funk and disco records.
